Looking for better coffee? Hundreds of chefs and sommeliers say these are the world’s best

Discovering Excellence: The World’s Premier Coffee Selections Revealed

Looking for better coffee Hundreds of chefs – A distinguished gathering of culinary professionals and beverage experts recently completed an extensive evaluation of coffees sourced from every corner of the globe. This comprehensive assessment formed part of the International Taste Institute’s prestigious Superior Taste Awards program. Industry professionals consistently recognize these accolades as the most honored taste certification available globally, establishing them as a benchmark for quality in both food and beverage sectors.

This year’s selections included numerous varieties spanning multiple formats. Participants evaluated whole-bean selections, ground preparations, instant options, capsule and pod configurations, as well as decaffeinated offerings. Each product underwent rigorous scrutiny by expert panelists who approached their work with professional dedication and impartiality.

The Art of Blind Evaluation

Jury members conducted their assessments through a meticulous blind tasting protocol performed in complete silence. Before sampling began, participants received no information regarding the products beyond their designated categories. All identifying markers were removed from the food and beverages to ensure unbiased judgments. This methodological approach guarantees that evaluations reflect genuine sensory experiences rather than brand recognition or preconceived expectations.

Panelists assessed each sample across five distinct dimensions. For beverages, these included first impression, visual appeal, olfactory characteristics, taste profile, and final sensation. Products achieving an overall score exceeding seventy percent received the Superior Taste Award, which the Institute describes as “a stamp of indisputable quality and prestige.” This certification represents meaningful validation for manufacturers and importers alike.

“The judging was part of the International Taste Institute’s (ITI) Superior Taste Awards, which are ‘widely regarded in the food and beverage industry as the most prestigious taste certification worldwide,’ according to the ITI.”

Star Ratings and Global Recognition

Products received additional differentiation through a three-tier star rating system. Nineteen coffees achieved the highest three-star designation, representing exceptional quality that exceeded ninety percent of the scoring scale. These premium selections came from diverse regions including Italy, Spain, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Germany, Turkey, Japan, and Taiwan.

Among the three-star winners available to American consumers, two Lavazza brand selections earned particular acclaim. La Reserva de ¡Tierra! Colombia received praise as “a full-bodied and balanced blend, with aromatic notes of tropical fruits, lime zest and jasmine.” This hundred percent Arabica blend originates from Colombian farms and proves particularly suitable for espresso preparation.

Tales of Italy Canal Grande offers a different profile, combining Arabica and Robusta beans with chocolate undertones. This selection rates eight out of ten on the intensity scale and reaches American markets through British importers via major retailers.

The ground coffee category featured only one three-star recipient: Café San Alberto by Café San Alberto of Colombia. Meanwhile, Costa Coffee Professional from the United Kingdom secured three separate three-star awards within the pod and capsule segment for their Signature Medium Decaf, Podio Capsule, Signature Medium Roast, and Colombian Character Roast offerings.

Instant coffee enthusiasts found their champion in Oriental Kopi Classic White Coffee by Oriental Coffee International of Malaysia. The scoring system provides clear guidance for consumers, with one-star products representing good quality at seventy to eighty percent, two-star selections standing out at eighty to ninety percent, and three-star achievements marking exceptional products at ninety percent and above.
