Man who threw girlfriend from tower block jailed

Young Man Sentenced After Throwing Girlfriend from Apartment
A 22-year-old man from Solihull has received a five-year prison sentence for throwing his girlfriend from a tower block’s fourth floor. Jordan Herring was convicted of wounding after a trial at Birmingham Crown Court, following a previous charge of coercive and controlling behavior toward the same woman.
The incident occurred in November 2022 at Merton House in Chelmsley Wood, Solihull, when the 18-year-old victim, Bobbie Goodman, fell from Herring’s mother’s fourth-floor flat. She was airlifted to hospital with severe injuries, including a collapsed lung and fractures to her pelvis, spine, and ribs.
Victim’s Account of the Attack
Bobbie described the event as ‘extremely dehumanising,’ recounting how she was left unable to move, walk, or even wash herself. She feared she might never walk again and expressed deep resentment toward Herring, who she believes has significantly damaged her life.
After spending a month in hospital and several more weeks on a wheelchair, Goodman shared her emotional struggle. ‘I have a lot of hatred for this man. He’s ruined my life in so many ways,’ she said. ‘He’s made me not want to trust another man ever again. But I hope someday, I will.'”
Mother’s Distress Call
On the night of the incident, Herring’s mother made a frantic 999 call, expressing her anguish to emergency services. Kerrie-Anne Grogan was heard to say: ‘I couldn’t call the ambulance… I should have done so much earlier, but he’s my son. I’m terrified he might grab a knife and harm her.’
The jury was informed that emergency services were not summoned until more than an hour after the fall. Herring, of Lark Meadow Drive, was also convicted of coercive and controlling behavior in a prior trial, with the court hearing that the relationship was ‘toxic’ and the argument that led to the incident centered on cheating, according to police.
Authorities highlighted their ongoing support for the victim and praised her courage in sharing her experiences of the abuse. The case underscores the impact of domestic violence and the lasting consequences it can have on a person’s life.
