Former WWE Star Set for Huge Tag Match at ACW
Former WWE star set for huge action this Saturday night as Soleil takes to the ring during Awesome Championship Wrestling’s Indypendence Day event. The masked performer will team with Dante Casanova in a tag team match against The Righteous duo of Vincent and Dutch. Sidney Akeem, the former WWE star set for huge opportunity, is the man behind the mask. This marks his first ACW appearance since 2025’s Mischief Night, where he faced Casanova and AJZ in a triple-threat contest.
Soleil Discusses Importance of Character
Casanova won that previous bout and now teams with Soleil for this exciting matchup. Speaking with Fox News Digital, he expressed enthusiasm about facing Vincent and Dutch, who have established themselves as one of professional wrestling’s premier tag teams, particularly through their Thursday night appearances in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.
“I’m not going to say there’s any nerves. I’ve been in the ring with a lot of great talent in my career. This is the first time I get to tangle with The Righteous and I’m excited.”
The former WWE star set for huge match noted he had recently spoken with The Righteous brothers, sharing his appreciation for their work. He described the partnership with Casanova as unexpected but promising, stating both men have proven they belong in wrestling and now want to make a statement in the ACW tag team division.
Wearing the Soleil mask represents something deeply personal for Akeem. He revealed he has been developing the character for nearly six years, attempting to introduce it during his WWE tenure without success. During his time with the company, he was known by different names including Scrypts and Reggie.
“Yeah, I mean this is the new me and this is also the real me. Everyone knows Sidney Akeem, former WWE superstar Reggie, NXT star Scrypts, and you know I never quite found my footing of who I really am when I was in WWE.”
The former WWE star set for huge success explained that while he had a strong run as Sidney Akeem in the independent circuit, something was missing—a connection with fans worldwide. He attempted to develop Scrypts in NXT but felt there were too many competing ideas. His true Soleil debut, complete with music and jumbotron presentation, occurred at ACW.
Soleil, described as the dark sun who comes from the circus, represents courage and breaking barriers. Akeem grew up in an environment where being your true self wasn’t always encouraged, so masks became a way to express identity. Unlike traditional masks that hide who you are, Soleil’s mask reveals his authentic self.
The character embodies a message for children around the world who look like him or have experienced similar challenges. He wants them to know it’s okay to dream big, even when the world says no. The former WWE star set for huge recognition believes there’s a superhero inside everyone, regardless of background or past reputation.
“I’m putting a mask on because this is truly who I am. I already move like a superhero. And circus people the closest thing to real life superheroes that we have for all of the things that we do.”
Wrestling’s roots in the circus make the connection even more meaningful for Soleil. Akeem sees this character as more than a gimmick—it’s a representation of his journey and a symbol for others who refuse to be confined by expectations. The former WWE star set for huge impact continues to build his presence in professional wrestling through this authentic expression of identity.
