Oil back above $110 after Trump’s Threat to Iran

Global oil prices rebounded above $110 per barrel following a sharp escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran. On Monday, Brent crude climbed 1.6% to $110.85, while US-traded crude rose 0.8% to $112.40. This surge came after US President Donald Trump issued a forceful warning against Iran, threatening to target its key infrastructure unless the Strait of Hormuz remained open by Tuesday.

Iran has been blocking maritime traffic through the narrow strait as a response to US and Israeli airstrikes launched on February 28. These attacks disrupted energy shipments from the Middle East, a region that supplies a fifth of the world’s oil. The bottleneck has triggered global energy price hikes and raised fears of inflationary pressures. Trump, however, extended deadlines for Iran to ease its restrictions, restating his demands with heightened intensity in a social media post.

Trump’s Strong-Willed Statement

On Sunday, Trump posted an incendiary message on Truth Social, declaring that Tuesday would be “Power Plant Day” and “Bridge Day” in Iran. He warned that the nation would face severe consequences if it failed to secure the strait’s passage. The post included explicit language, such as “Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell,” alongside a reference to Allah. Later, he reiterated the timeline, specifying “Tuesday, 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time!” as the deadline for action.

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP”

Trump’s comments followed his earlier postponement of deadlines for Iran to remove its threats against vessels in the strait. He told Fox News that a deal was “likely” to be finalized on Monday but hinted at a potential escalation, stating he might “blow everything up and take over the oil” if progress stalled.
