Thinking of signing up to Metro’s Lifeline challenge? Here’s everything you need to know
Ready to Join Metro’s Lifeline Challenge? Key Details You Should Know
This summer, picture yourself exploring the scenic Cotswold hills, with the breeze tousling your hair and sunlight warming your skin—each stride you take contributes to supporting individuals living with dementia. Whether you’re new to our initiatives or a seasoned participant, the event offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.
Event Overview
The Lifeline challenge is set for June 13, 2026, beginning at the Royal Agricultural University in Circencester. It’s a public-facing event, with over 2000 like-minded hikers joining the journey. Even if you register on your own, you’ll have company to chat with and stay motivated throughout.
Team Lifeline is a diverse group of individuals, including Metro staff and Alzheimer’s Society representatives, as well as readers and community members who learned about the challenge through the charity. Age and fitness levels vary, so whether you join alone or with friends is entirely up to you.
Fundraising and Participation
Before registering, decide the distance you’re comfortable with. This year, participants can choose 25km, 50km, or 100km (the 100km option can be completed in one day or over two days). Each route has a specific fundraising target: £150 for the 25km, £225 for the 50km, and £330 for the 100km. This allows you to set your own challenge level while contributing to essential research and support programs.
At least 50% of your sponsorship goal must be raised three weeks before the event, with the remaining amount—and any extra contributions—due within four weeks of finishing. Metro Lifeline has a dedicated JustGiving page for donations, which will be shared with you immediately upon registration.
Support During the Event
We’ll accompany you throughout the journey with consistent updates, and you can also engage with our dedicated Facebook group. Here, participants exchange advice, training schedules, and share photos of their practice walks, serving as a valuable resource to maintain focus and motivation. As the event nears, you’ll get an invitation to our Lifeline WhatsApp group, ensuring everyone’s safe arrival and awareness of the following day’s plans.
Additionally, you’ll receive regular email updates from the charity and event organizers, Action Challenge, regarding start times, route details, and bib numbers. Your start-time email will arrive four weeks in advance, with the e-ticket email coming 10-14 days before the event. Action Challenge also provides a FAQ section on their sign-up page for any questions.
Every mile and every donation directly impacts the lives of those living with dementia. Whether you sign up solo or with companions, you’ll be part of Team Lifeline, with ongoing assistance, motivation, and guidance. The challenge is not just about physical endurance—it’s a chance to unite with others for a greater cause.
